About this directory
This is an editorial directory of legal AI vendors. It is not operated by any listed vendor. It exists because the category is hard to shop: a research engine, a contract review add-in, an e-discovery platform, and a practice-management assistant all market themselves with the same three words. The directory sorts them by what they actually do.
Listings are compiled from each vendor’s own public materials and edited by an operator who buys and runs software like this inside a working law practice. That means the facts come from the vendor and the judgment calls — who a tool fits, who should skip it — come from us. We have not personally deployed every product listed here, and we do not pretend otherwise. Editorial listings are not for sale. Not ads, not a ranking, not legal advice.
What a listing contains
- What it does — the product in plain terms, at the level of detail a buyer needs to place it in a stack.
- Fit — the firm profile and workflow the tool is genuinely built for.
- Not a fit — who should skip it. Every listing has one. A page without a “not a fit” is a brochure.
- Facts — logo, headquarters, products, integrations, and links to the vendor’s own site and public entity records.
- Similar tools — two or three products a buyer would realistically shortlist alongside it.
How similar tools are picked
By substitution, not by popularity. Two products are listed as similar when a firm evaluating one would sensibly evaluate the other for the same job. Comparisons are editorial judgment; they are not derived from traffic, funding, review counts, or any commercial relationship.
What we refuse to publish
- Numeric scores, stars, or a “best of” ranking.
- Prices we cannot source from the vendor. If pricing is quote-only, we say so.
- Founding years, headcounts, or funding figures we cannot source publicly.
- Paid editorial placement, sponsored rows mixed into this directory, or affiliate links.
- Scraped review aggregates presented as our own assessment.
What “last reviewed” means
The date on a company page is the last time a human opened the vendor’s site and checked the listing against it. It is not a scrape timestamp and it does not mean the product changed on that date. This category moves fast, so treat anything more than a few months old as worth confirming with the vendor before you buy.
Suggest or correct a listing
Missing vendor, wrong fact, stale description — use the suggestion form or write to hello@legalaicompanies.com. Include a public source. Vendors are welcome to write in; a correction from a vendor is treated as a source to verify, not as copy to publish.
