US case-law research and drafting over the public CourtListener corpus.

Cetient

What it does
Cetient, Inc. is a self-serve research and drafting tool over US case law from the public CourtListener corpus (Free Law Project). It is not Westlaw or LexisNexis — the vendor states it is unaffiliated with both, and with OpenAI and Thomson Reuters. The homepage FAQ claims access to over nine million decisions from 2000-plus federal and state courts; a public courts index lists the Supreme Court, circuit courts of appeals, district and bankruptcy courts, Tax Court, Court of International Trade, military appellate courts, veterans and immigration boards, and state courts. You ask a question or upload files; the vendor names OpenAI, Claude, and Gemini as the models that search that corpus, summarize, and draft. Outputs may hallucinate. You must review them against linked full-text opinions. Cetient is not a lawyer, not a law firm, and not legal advice. Database search is United States only. It is not a CMS, DMS, citator, or practice-management system.
Fit
Price-sensitive solos, students, in-house counsel doing occasional US lookups, and self-represented litigants who need CourtListener coverage without a Westlaw or Lexis seat. Published plans and a free tier with usage limits are the buyer filter.
Not a fit
Skip it if you need Westlaw or Lexis as the research corpus, a citator, iManage or Clio write-back, ethical walls, or non-US law. There is no matter management, no collaboration workspace, and no security page. The homepage markets lawyers next to self-represented litigants, which is a skip for any firm that must pass a security review. Anyone who would file without checking cites against the linked opinions should skip it.
Audience / pricing
Solos, students, and self-represented litigants shopping US case-law AI. Free tier with usage limits; plans from $20/month; Pro99 $99/month or $990/year (1000 questions and 1000 MB uploads); Pro $200/month or $167/month billed annually (confirm on cetient.com).
