- What it does
- Filevine AI is LOIS on Filevine projects, not a separate practice system and not a Westlaw or Lexis subscription. LOIS for Filevine is the matter side panel. LOIS Console, on Advanced and Expert, asks and acts across projects the user can see: tasks, notes, deadlines, and documents. A base seat includes a vendor-stated meter of three AI chats per user per month. Unlimited use is a per-project upgrade. LOIS for Word, formerly Pincites, reviews and redlines in Microsoft Word on Advanced and Expert, not Assistant. MedChron, Expert only, builds a chronology from project records and links each entry to a source page. LOIS Legal Research is a separate per-user add-on on the vendor U.S. federal and state opinion set. The vendor says that check can sit beside Westlaw or Lexis. The lawyer still verifies every cite. Depo CoPilot is not an official transcript. LOIS Explore is a vendor-stated 90-day trial with no case connection. Current Filevine customers cannot use it.
- Fit
- Litigation and plaintiff firms, including personal injury, that already run Filevine as the system of record and want AI to read and write the matter file. Strongest on LOIS Advanced or Expert, where Console and Word sit on those projects, and on Expert, where MedChron does too. A team that only wants cited research and drafting, with no case file, can use the LOIS Explore trial instead of buying the platform.
- Not a fit
- Skip it if Clio, Smokeball, or another system of record is where the file lives and you need write-back there. Skip it if you need a published per-user price before a sales order. Most LOIS use past three chats a month is a per-project upgrade, and unused project minimums do not roll over. Skip it if you need the research library itself to be Westlaw or Lexis. This add-on is the vendor opinion set, not those subscriptions. Do not treat Depo CoPilot output as the official transcript. Do not expect MedChron or LOIS for Word on the Assistant tier. Review-site operators report add-on cost for AI document work and that chronologies still need a human check against the source pages. The vendor requires that cite check. LOIS for Meetings is iOS only.
