- What it does
- Smokeball is the practice system for solo and small people-law firms. It is the matter file, not a Westlaw or Lexis seat and not a contract-lifecycle tool. Microsoft Word and Outlook file email and documents back to the matter. TemplateLab fills court and firm forms from that file, from a library of more than 20,000 templates. AutoTime, included on Prosper+ and an add-on on Grow, logs activity in Word, Outlook, and Smokeball. A person still reviews those lines before the invoice. Bill and Boost track time by hand. Trust, invoicing, and Smokeball Payments sit on the same file. Archie drafts and summarizes in the matter, Word, and Outlook and cites the file. It is an add-on on Grow and Prosper+, not on Bill or Boost. It reads only that firm file. A lawyer still checks the draft. Archie Apps can call CaseMark, Novo AI, or Supio for a chronology or a demand. Fees are a quote. No public price.
- Fit
- Solo and small firms in family, personal injury, probate, criminal, real estate, or general practice that already work in Microsoft Word and Outlook and want the matter file, forms, and invoices in one system. Hourly or hybrid billing on Prosper+ is where AutoTime is included. Family firms can add FamilyPro for property-division math.
- Not a fit
- Big Law, in-house departments, and e-discovery review desks. Archie is not a Westlaw or Lexis citator. Bill and Boost do not include AutoTime, and Archie is an add-on even on Grow and Prosper+. Grow is a native desktop app for firms with three or more staff. Operators on Mac report that desktop client is Windows-only. The order-form term locks user count and tier. Fees are not refundable mid-term. Operators report sharp renewal jumps and duplicate AutoTime lines that still need a daily cleanup. Contingency shops that never bill hours get less from the time-capture pitch.
