- What it does
- Lexis+ with Protégé is the LexisNexis research, drafting, and analysis workspace, renamed from Lexis+ AI in February 2026. Protégé answers from LexisNexis primary law, secondary sources, and Practical Guidance notes across 25 practice areas, and can add web and legal news (Law360, MLex, Mealey's) for timely context. Shepard's Verify and Shepard's Citations check citations in the assistant's answers and in uploaded drafts. A legal-AI mode keeps those answers on the LexisNexis corpus. A separate general-AI mode can call models from OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic; that mode is not a Shepard's-grounded research answer. Vault stores firm uploads (up to 50 vaults, 1 to 500 documents each). Uploads of ten or fewer documents that are not saved to a Vault are purged at session end. Lexis Create+ puts the same assistant in Microsoft Word and Outlook. It is not a practice-management, intake, billing, or e-discovery system. A lawyer still has to read the cites.
- Fit
- Litigation and transactional teams, and in-house departments, that already pay for LexisNexis content and want Shepard's-checked research and first drafts rather than a general chatbot. A fit when iManage, NetDocuments, SharePoint, Google Drive, or OpenText already holds precedent, or the firm drafts in Microsoft 365 and can turn on Lexis Create+.
- Not a fit
- Skip it if the firm is not on LexisNexis. The product is that corpus plus Shepard's, not a substitute library. It does not run intake, billing, a matter docket, or e-discovery review. Packaging is quote-only: the vendor says price depends on organization size, capabilities, and content access, and the store page treats Protégé as generative AI on top of Lexis+. DMS connectors and Create+ depend on the subscription, so confirm they are in the package. Do not treat the general-AI model picker as a validated research answer. Session uploads that are not saved to a Vault are purged.
