Clearbrief
Word add-in that fact-cites litigation briefs against your record and checks case cites on LexisNexis.
Seattle, Washington
- What it does
- Clearbrief is a Microsoft Word add-in for litigation writing. You ingest the case file — depositions, medical records, exhibits, appellate records — then draft in Word. Analyze and Add Fact-Cite scores each factual sentence against that record, suggests pincites, and hyperlinks the source page so the signing lawyer can read it in the brief. Legal citations are checked against LexisNexis and, on the vendor site, Fastcase/vLex. The vendor describes the Analyzer as deterministic rather than generative: it flags mismatches; it does not invent a red flag. Other Word outputs include tables of authorities, exhibit tables, timelines, summaries, a hyperlinked investigation report, a cite-check report for partner sign-off, and a cross-examination outline. SOC 2 Type 2, optional bring-your-own storage, and a stated no-training-on-your-data posture. It is not Westlaw, not a research chatbot, not contract review, and not a practice-management system. You still open every linked page before you file.
- Fit
- Litigation, appellate, and trial teams at boutiques through Am Law firms, plus in-house counsel, courts, government shops, and AAA-ICDR panelists, who already write in Word and have a document record to check. Fits desks that need every fact sentence tied to a page in the file, and partners who want a cite-check report before they sign. HR investigation teams using the same Word workflow for hyperlinked findings reports.
- Not a fit
- Transactional and contract-review desks, Google Docs shops, and anyone whose job is published-law research without a case file. Skip if you need CLM, intake, e-discovery review as the product, or Clio write-back. Relativity, iManage, and NetDocuments are vendor-named connectors, not the job. Legal cite-check is LexisNexis/vLex, not Westlaw. The Analyzer does not replace the signer: you still open every linked page.
